DIY Decor: Paper Flower Ball

I got the idea for trying a paper flower ball from Project Wedding. This was just to test it out to show my sister, who is getting married in July and we are doing our own decorations. I simply used a glue gun, a styrofoam ball, Q-tips, scissors and paper.

I rolled the papaer around the Q-tips.

Collected a bunch.

Stuck them in the styrofoam ball.

I didn't take a picture of the finished product, I brought it to New York with me to show Rachel at her bachelorette party but it looked great. If I choose to do this, or have any time to do it again I will upgrade to color paper!

All of these fantastic pink rooms are from House to Home.

I love the yellow and pink.

The stripes are great! A fun reading nook.

Decor Theme: Green

My Home Ideas

Ideal Home

BHG explains that if you want to add a punch of green to a bland room, you can do a simple project. Try wrapping some green ribbon or fabric around white candles, or putting a bowl of green granny smith apples on the table.

Banana Bread Pudding

I found a few recipes online and took a bit from each. This is what I came up with:

6 slices of cinnamon bread
4 eggs, beaten
3 cups milk
2 ripe bananas, mashed
3/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Break the bread into pieces and put in a bowl with the milk for a few minutes.
3. Combine eggs, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla in a bowl and beat until well mixed. Pour over bread and milk, and mix it all up.
4. Put in baking pan and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until edges are golden.

And it turned out great! Here is the photographic evidence:
A slice of the heavenly bread.

Ripped up bread in the bowl.
Combine the ingredients.

Fresh out the oven.

Delicious bread pudding!

Inside the Exterior: 22 Colby

This is the house I grew up in! My Mom recently revamped the curb appeal, giving the house fresh blue siding, and jet black shutters. Nice job Mom!

Do you see my car peeking into the frame on the left? That's the "Party Lexus."

22 is always our family lucky number.

The dining room makes me think of Christmas, Easter, and Sunday night dinners with the family.

Beachy Bachelorette Party

This weekend we had a bachelorette party for my older sister Rachel. 10 girls, including the bride to be, trekked out to the Hamptons from all over the country to be there for this exciting occasion. Her friends from high school, college, me and my other sister stayed in her friend's house in Sag Harbor.

We put together a scrap book with pictures of us with Rachel over the years. It was so great!

The first page of the extensive scrapbook. Totes ador.

The view from the backyard of the Civetta's house!

It was raining most of Saturday, so we went shopping in Sag Harbor.

I should specify, we went window shopping. I don't think any of us bought anything, except ice cream!

Rachel, about to enter the chains of marriage.

Tears of joy!

Theresa Explores: Sag Harbor, NY

This weekend I bipped over to the Hamptons for my sister's bachelorette party! We caroused the shops in Sag Harbor and I obviously lugged along my amazing new camera.

I snapped pictures whenever I was inspired.

This was at the Shell Shop.

Lots of shells to choose from. I purchased 3 sand dollars for $1 each. I intend framing each one and hanging them in my beachy decor room.

Scarves are my new obsession! I have 5 and I want 500 more!

We each threatened to buy a new dress to where to dinner that night. But no one did. I enjoyed the sequined leopard print dress, it is so my style!

DIY Decor: My Next Room

I am currently looking for an apartment to move to around Boston because I just got a job offer! I already live in Beacon Hill, but it's very pricey for me. I am fortunate enough to have very generous parent who helped me pay for this place during my college years, but now that I have graduated I am on my own.

For my next apartment I am fixed on a New England beach themed room. I am going to get white shelves, and decorate it all from new. A few of my furniture items will work with this decor, but then I was thinking about some extras I'd really like.
One thing I love is corkboard.

I could buy a few big ones, or sheet of it, and make a wall completely cork-board. I already have a huge board in my room, but it is SO crowded. My friends and I like to send each other letters, pictures, postcards and mementos constantly, so there's never enough room.

My second thought is a photo clothesline like this one from Wikihow. I could find those mini clothespins in different colors, or paint my own to be beachy greens, yellows and blues. I think it will look adorable!

Decor Theme: Yellow Again

Yellow is my favorite color! It is bright and cheerful, like the sun, and like me. So here is another blog post featuring the best color on the color spectrum... yellow!

I saw this on iVillage, it is from a book titled Scalamandre Luxurious Home Interiors. Very yellow.

Decor Theme: Yellow

Yesterday I was so sick! I don't know what happened, I must have gotten some kind of bug. Well I couldn't do much but lie in my bed scrunched up like a ball. But now I am back and ready for action. Today I have decided to blog about my favorite color. YELLOW!

I love this yellow-walled foyer from Good Housekeeping.

Yellow walls look good in the bathroom too! This image is also from Good Housekeeping.

Sometimes a few loud yellow pieces can really make a room awesome. This image is from House to Home.

Well that made me feel better! And much happier. Today is rainy and blah in Boston. Maybe tomorrow will be better! I am going to New York tomorrow, my sister's bachelorette party will commence immediately upon all the ladies arrivals. Many pictures to come!

Decor Theme: Lori Dennis Designs

I came across Lori Dennis Interior Design on HGTV.com. I always enjoy neutral and brown color schemes with splashes of green. Lori Dennis is based out of LA, and her design is gorgeous! Here are a few rooms in her portfolio.

I really like the big cactus, maybe because Arizona is one of my fave states.

What a perfect piece of art over the couch. Artwork can seriously make or break a room, and in this case it totally made it stunning!

I love the modern green seats contrasted by those brown couches in the living room. An open floor plan can be difficult but here she ties them together seamlessly.

All these images were taken from Lori Dennis Interior Design's fabulous website. It's eco-friendly too, score! Check it out.

Trendy Digs: Open Cabinets in the Kitchen

I love open shelving in kitchens instead of closed cabinets. It forces you to stay organized, looks more spacious, and makes you buy pretty dishes only!
These colorful dishes spice up the black and white tile backsplash that it accompanies. I got this picture off of deardaisycottage's Flickr.
I love the green and yellow in this kitchen. And the open cabinets look so good! It adds flavor, a lemony zesty tang.
Take on look at xJavierx's Flickr, and good luck ever closing your internet browser. Holy cow! So much inspiration, beautiful photographs or beautiful homes!

DIY Decor: Wallpaper

The other day I went out for dinner to a restaurant in Cambridge, MA, "Hungry Mother." It was delicious. At the end of the meal I excused myself to go to the bathroom, and much to my excitement the bathroom was wallpapered with the pages of a Julia Childs Recipe Book! So this post is dedicated to DIY wallpapering. Pages of books, maps, vintage posters, whatever you can find. Let these pictures inspire you!
Make your study look super sophisticated by wallpapering it with vintage maps. This photo is from the Denver Post, but I found it on the amazing Flickr stream of XjavierX.
This one is romantic! It's old letters as wallpaper from zedomax.com.
